Attack On Titan

After the destruction of his hometown and the murder of his mother, Eren Yeager vows to clean the earth of the giant humanoid Titans that have brought humanity to the brink of extinction.

Attack on Titan (進撃の巨人 Shingeki no Kyojin?, lit. Advancing Giant(s)) is a manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. It was first published in September 2009 and is serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine.

The original Japanese title, “Shingeki no Kyojin,” has a dual meaning. The literal translation of the title is “Advancing Giant(s)” or “Attacking Giant(s)”, with giants being Titans in the context of the series. In this way, the title can refer to both the advancing threat of the Titans or to a single attacking Titan.

Over a century ago, terror rained upon humanity when monstrous giants named “titans” appeared and mercilessly devoured humans. With no other choice, mankind built large walls to barricade themselves safely in and keep the Titans out.

Decades later, Eren Yeager is a boy that has grown up within the walls only knowing peace. He and his friends, Mikasa and Armin, innocently dream of exploring the vast world outside the walls. But none except the military have ever left their safe haven — until the day comes when a colossal titan breaks through the wall, and humanity’s peace is shattered to ruins once again.

Description: Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as one of the city walls is damaged by a 60 meter (196.85 feet) giant causing a breach in the wall. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror the tragic events that follow. Eren vows that he will wipe out every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

Attack on Titan or Shingeki no Kyojin is a manga series both written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. It is set in a fantasy world where humanity lives within territories surrounded by three enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans.

After his hometown is destroyed and his mother is killed, young Eren Yeager vows to cleanse the earth of the giant humanoid Titans.

As the story progresses, more mysteries surrounding the true origin and nature of the Titans, as well as the lost history of the world are addressed, and the reader gradually discovers that the Titans may not be the real enemies. Eren and the Survey Corps find themselves as the only remaining hope for their civilization, as they fight to uncover secrets from the past and stop the forces that want to bring about the destruction of mankind in the present and future.
